Battle Royale in Felstad

Through winds and snow, they finally made it!

Yesterday was the day I finally got my Red Box miniatures, and what a pleasant surprise! The models are just awesome. Infinity-Level awesome. Not a single flash or mold line, perfectly detailed minis. It was definitely worth the wait.
The hobbits are quite small while the Norse are quite large, with humans in the middle and elves being smaller and slender but that all makes perfect sense to me. I will definitely get more of Tre Manor's amazing sculpts. Here is a hasty shot of the whole bunch:

The crew!

I also got these two giant dogs (see below). They are not quite on the same scale as my warband but I'm fond of bulldogs so my hobbits will have to cope with those scary monsters!
Brutus & the Brute!

I can't wait to paint these guys. Everything else on my work table will have to wait until this warband is fully painted!

BATTLE ROYALE!

...and now on to the game. I lightly glued everyone on their base to get them ready to go last night where two gaming buddies arrived with their Warbands hungry for treasures. We settled on a free-for-all game on a 3x4 crowded, multi-level table. I must admit I was a little worried after my last 40k free-for-all game that didn't go so well but it's another game, so let's try this.
9 treasures, a terrain-heavy table, an illusionist, an elementalist and my chronomancer, their respective apprentices and 8-men strong warbands of mercenaries, ready for a treasure hunt! The game was really fun, albeit bloody due to the fact that 30 models were disputing the treasures all over the frozen city. Also, since we were not accumulating XPs, I took risks that we normaly wouldn't have in a campaign game. The best example of this is when on the last turn I went to get a treasure on the very top level of the table, in full sight of everyone. The elementalist  asked the illusionist to pull glow on me and then elemental blasted me at +11...of course my already-damaged wizard didn't survive the tag-team combo! I believe it is important to note that the elementalist is a 40k Tau player and was obviously missing  his markerlights!  The illusionist was wiser, getting out most of his models after grabbing his third treasure, while the Elementalist was only looking for blood...my blood!
We played Genie in a Bottle and the Big Bad Demon showed up on the first treasure picked up! The elementalist managed to bog down the demon with a thug (and a man-at-arm?) for most of the game so it was not that much of a factor.
In the end the illusionist and the elementalist ended with 3 treasures each, while I was denied my third one thanks to my opponents ganging up on me at the last minute! I'll get my revenge guys...

Here are a bunch of bad quality(!) pics in a random order:

The first grand melee of the game. My dog did great while my treasure hunter got taken out even if my apprentice boosted him with fleet feet and martial awereness.
The Genie challenged by a brave (or dumb) thug.
The second grand melee! The small hobbit thief was the only one to get out of there alive, with the loot of course!
The illusionist flanked by his crossbowman dropping fogbanks across the battlefield.
The Elementalist's dark elves crew setting up quickly across the ruins.
The Genie taking care of business.
The norse archer aiming at the ennemy thug trying to gang up on my hobbit treasure hunter, with the illusionist and his shooty escort in the back of the alley.
The Dark elves trying to keep cohesion.
Man-at-arm going for the treasure.
Going forward! Goooo dog!
Bowman deploying on top.
The evil elves scheming their evil plan.
The table!
Elementalist deployment.
Illusionist deployment.
Battlefield from above.
